The quantum-classical transition in thermally seeded parametric downconversion

چکیده
We address the pair of conjugated field modes obtained from parametricdownconversion as a convenient system to analyze the quantum-classical transition in the continuous variable regime. We explicitly evaluate intensity correlations, negativity and entanglement for the system in a thermal state and show that a hierarchy of nonclassicality thresholds naturally emerges in terms of thermal and downconversion photon number. We show that the transition from quantum to classical regime may be tuned by controlling the intensities of the seeds and detected by intensity measurements. Besides, we show that the thresholds are not affected by losses, which only modify the amount of nonclassicality. The multimode case is also analyzed in some detail. Correlated imaging visibility using a parametric downconversion source seeded with partially coherent stimulation
We have studied a correlated imaging scheme using parametric downconversion stimulated with a partially coherent beam as a source. We analyze the dependence of quantum spatial correlations and image reconstruction features on the crystal length, the coherence length, and the transverse size of the seed beam in lowand high-gain regimes of parametric downconversion. We show that the visibility of...
متن کاملGhost imaging with intense fields from chaotically seeded parametric downconversion.
We present the first experimental demonstration, to the best of our knowledge, of ghost imaging realized with intense beams generated by a parametric downconversion interaction seeded with pseudothermal light. As expected, the real image of the object is reconstructed satisfying the thin-lens equation. We show that the experimental visibility of the reconstructed image is in accordance with the...
متن کاملQuantum Cryptography via Parametric Downconversion
The use of quantum bits (qubits) in cryptography holds the promise of secure cryptographic quantum key distribution schemes. It is based usually on single-photon polarization states. Unfortunately, the implemented “qubits” in the usual weak pulse experiments are not true two-level systems, and quantum key distribution based on these imperfect qubits is totally insecure in the presence of high (...
متن کاملParametric downconversion vs optical parametric amplification: a comparison of their quantum statistics
The extent to which the intense light generated by an unseeded, high-gain optical parametric ampli®er retains the desired quantum statistical properties of the individual photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion is analysed. It is shown that certain but not all of these properties are retained, with important implications for applications of quantum optics.
متن کاملQuantum and classical correlations of intense beams of light via joint photodetection
We address joint photodetection as a method to discriminate between the classical correlations of a thermal beam divided by a beam splitter and the quantum entanglement of a twin-beam obtained by parametric downconversion. We show that for intense beams of light the detection of the difference photocurrent may be used, in principle, in order to reveal entanglement, while the simple measurement ...
